State industry training engagement bodies

The Queensland Skills Plan steered the establishment of new industry training engagement bodies which provide a central platform for industry and government to work together on addressing the state's skilling needs. Under agreements with the Department of Education and Training, these industry bodies are leading the implementation of strategies to maximise industry engagement across the state and identify comprehensive measures aimed at addressing their industry's most pressing skills' needs.

Centres of excellence
The Department of Education and Training and the Queensland Government are committed to addressing skilling and labour market development through partnerships with industry groups. Through Queensland Skills Plan 2008, the department will continue to implement a range of engagement strategies to better partner with industries to address their skilling needs.

Skills alliances
Five skills alliances have been formed with industry groups to provide the department with advice about developing skills needs and addressing the latest trends in the automotive, community services and health, creative, hospitality and tourism, and sport and recreation industries.

Industry-government partnerships
Industry-government partnerships are building on existing relationships between the rural and transport industries and the Queensland Government agencies to address skilling and workforce development needs through a whole-of-government approach.

Direct engagement
Direct engagement arrangements have been established in the security, racing, water, retail and personal services, forestry and local government sectors with key industry organisations to obtain advice on workforce development and skilling requirements.
